These images were created for a show dealing with the San Francisco leather scene. The leather community has often been
represented by rough, violent imagery. I wanted my images to go beyond the stereotypical "rough trade" sexual connotations
of leather and reveal a softer, more sensuous side to leather worship (Gerber Gag, 2000 and Artichoke Worship, 2000). Other
images, such as Pleasure/Pain, 2000, deal with the frame of mind that it takes to dominate or to be dominated. Whether you
are a master or servant, one who takes control, or one who relinquishes it, domination is a complex mental and physical act.
It was the complex issues surrounding leather worship that inspired this series. |
